Who we are

TechConnect Relief is a small education project that focuses on digital inclusion and consumer protection. Our content is written for people who use programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing, and Veterans benefits and who need clear, honest information about tablet and connectivity support.

We are based in Austin, Texas and our guides are written with a national United States audience in mind. We study official rules, news from federal agencies like the Federal Communications Commission, and public information from providers and state digital equity offices to keep our guides as accurate and practical as possible.

We do not run a government program and we do not ship devices. Our role is to help you understand what may be possible in your situation so that you can decide which official channels to use.

What we focus on

Our main focus is on free and low cost tablet programs and related connectivity support for low income households. We also cover topics such as recertification, scam warnings, document checklists, and tips for seniors, students, veterans, and disabled Americans who need assistive technology.

We write with a step by step style. We explain who may qualify, what documents are usually needed, what a realistic timeline looks like, and how to respond if something goes wrong such as a denial or a request for more information. When we mention specific providers or resources, we encourage you to confirm details directly on their official sites because offers and rules can change.

How we stay independent

TechConnect Relief is not owned or controlled by a phone or internet carrier. We do not manage a government application portal and we do not make eligibility decisions. From time to time, we may link to third party comparison sites or providers that we believe offer useful tools for readers. Those links do not change our editorial standards.

We try to make it clear whenever we include referrals. You should always feel free to use other providers, visit state or local programs, or talk to a trusted nonprofit in your area instead of any external site that we mention.

How our content is created and reviewed

Our primary author is Michael Reyes, a digital inclusion advocate who has worked with community partners since 2018. Michael supports benefit sign up events, helps people prepare documents, and reviews forms for basic clarity before they are submitted through official channels.

For each new guide we:

  • Identify the main question that households are asking, for example free tablet with EBT or recertification steps.
  • Review current rules on official government websites and provider pages where available.
  • Write a plain language draft with examples from real world situations.
  • Perform a basic fact check and link to at least one official or nonprofit source where possible.
  • Assign a review date so that the guide can be revisited when programs or funding change.

You can read more about our research and review approach on the Editorial Standards page.

How we work with external resources

Our guides may occasionally mention external resources, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, or comparison style websites that show current provider offers. These links are provided as a starting point for your own research. We do not guarantee that any external site will approve an application or that specific device models will be in stock.

When we link to an external site that helps compare free or low cost tablet offers, we recommend that you double check the provider name, terms, and any small print before you enter personal information. If something looks confusing or aggressive, step back and consult an official agency or a trusted nonprofit that serves your community.
